ThermoElectric Module,also named Semiconductor refrigeration panels,Peltier cooler,also known as thermoelectric cooling chip. The advantage is that no sliding parts, used in some limited space, high reliability, no contamination. Utilizing Peltier effect of semiconductor materials, when a direct current through two different semiconductor materials into the galvanic series, the two ends of the galvanic couple to respectively absorb heat and release heat, can achieve the purpose of cooling. It is a negative thermal cooling technology, which features no moving parts, reliability is relatively high.

According to different product technology and functions, we are divided into CP series, high temperature series, micro series, PCR series and thermoelectric power generation TEG series, about 800 models.
The physical dimensions of TEC products range from 6.6 x 6.6 mm to 62 mm x 62 mm, and the cooling power ranges from 0.1 watts to 400 watts.

How to select appropriate “ThermoElectric Module”? |
In order to select an appropriate thermoelectric cooling device for a specific application, we need to evaluate the entire system using the cooler. For most application conditions, the standard refrigerator layout should be sufficient, but for some special application environments, special designs may be required to deal with electrical, mechanical and other additional requirements.

Before actually choosing a thermoelectric cooler, designers need to answer a few questions:
At what temperature does the object being cooled need to be kept?
How much heat needs to be removed from the object being cooled?
Is Thermal Response Time Important? If yes, how long does it take to change the temperature of the cooled object after the DC power is applied?
What is the expected ambient temperature? Does the ambient temperature change significantly when the instrument is running?
How much heat is lost by conduction, convection, and radiation?
How much space is available for the cooler and radiator?
What kind of power supply can be used?
Do you need to control the temperature of the object being cooled? If yes, what is the precision of the control?
What is the approximate heat sink temperature expected when the instrument is running? If the ambient temperature fluctuates, does the heatsink temperature change significantly? wait.
Of course, each application condition has its own specific requirements, with varying degrees of importance. Since many critical requirements cannot be changed, the designer’s job is mainly to select the appropriate components and operating parameters to finally obtain a sufficiently reliable cooling system. What`s working principle of “ThermoElectric Module”? |
●In 1834, the Frenchman Peltier discovered that when the current flows through the contact point formed by two different conductors, the electronic energy level will jump. This phenomenon is called the Peltier effect. The Peltier effect is the theoretical prototype of semiconductor refrigeration chips.
●When electrons flow from a low-energy P-type material to a high-energy N-type material, the electrons will jump from a low-energy level to a high-energy level. At this time, it is manifested that the electrons need to absorb heat, thus forming a cold surface at this node (cooling sheet cold noodles);
●Conversely, when electrons flow from high-energy N-type materials to low-energy P-type materials, the electrons will jump from high-energy levels to low-energy levels. At this time, the electrons need to release heat, thus forming a hot surface at this node (refrigerating sheet hot side);
●In fact, most of the closed rings formed by different metals have this phenomenon; the Peltier effect of the current commercialized bismuth telluride-based thermoelectric materials is more obvious, that is, the electronic energy level jumps higher, and the corresponding cooling efficiency is higher. At present, all over the world, the common commercialized semiconductor refrigeration chips are mainly based on bismuth telluride (using bismuth telluride as the base material, and do different doping to form P-level and N-level);
●As shown in the schematic diagram, the cooling chip is a circuit (usually a series circuit) composed of PN type thermoelectric materials.
●The semiconductor refrigeration chip is a device without moving parts, but because the materials used have different thermal expansion coefficients, the device will generate internal stress when the temperature changes; especially when the temperature change rate (such as cooling and heating cycles) is very fast When the value is large, the internal stress generated will be very large, so it is necessary to select high reliability devices.
Features of semiconductor coolers / ThermoElectric Module:
In some thermal control processes that only need to involve low or medium heat transfer, but require complex temperature control, thermoelectric coolers can be of great help, and, in some specific cases, it is the only choice. Although there is no one-size-fits-all refrigeration method, and thermoelectric coolers cannot be used in all fields, thermoelectric coolers have many advantages compared with other refrigeration equipment. These include:
No moving parts: Thermoelectric coolers use only electricity to operate and do not have any moving parts, making them virtually maintenance-free.
Small size and weight: A thermoelectric refrigeration system is much smaller and lighter than a corresponding mechanical refrigeration system. In addition, various standard or special sizes and layouts are available for various stringent application requirements.
Can be cooled below ambient temperature: Unlike conventional heat sinks, which need to raise the temperature above ambient temperature before they can be used, thermoelectric coolers have the ability to cool objects below ambient temperature.
The same device can meet both heating and cooling requirements: Thermoelectric coolers can adjust the cooling or heating mode by adjusting the direction of the applied DC current. The use of this feature eliminates the need for additional independent heating or cooling functions within a given system.
Precise temperature control: Since the thermoelectric cooler has a closed-loop temperature control loop, it can precisely control the temperature within 0.1 °C.
High reliability: Thermoelectric coolers are highly reliable due to their all solid-state based construction. Although somewhat dependent on application conditions, typical thermoelectric coolers typically have a lifetime of over 200,000 hours.
Electronic mute: Unlike traditional mechanical refrigeration devices, thermoelectric coolers basically do not generate any electronic interference signals during operation. It can be connected to sensitive electronic sensors without interfering with their work. Plus, it doesn’t make any noise during operation.
Can work at any angle: Thermoelectric coolers can work at any angle and in zero gravity. Therefore, it is widely used in aerospace equipment.
Simple and convenient energy supply: Thermoelectric coolers can directly use DC power, and the voltage and current of the loading power can be varied in a wide range. Under many conditions, pulse width modulation can also be used.
Point cooling: With thermoelectric coolers, it is possible to cool individual units or small areas, thereby avoiding the energy waste that would otherwise be incurred cooling an entire package or enclosure.
Power generation: Using the “inverse process” of a thermoelectric cooler by loading a temperature difference across it, it can be turned into a small DC generator.
Environmental friendly: The traditional mechanical refrigeration system inevitably needs to use freon or other chemical substances when working, and these substances are very harmful to the environment. Thermoelectric devices do not involve these chemicals and do not produce any harmful gases during operation.
