Flexible air conditioning duct.The flexible air conditioning duct is generally tubular and is made of a coil of flexible plastic wrapped around it and surrounded by an insulating material. Such pipes are best used in tough spaces where rigid pipes are simply not installed or used to connect non-flexible piping systems to the air intake. Like most central air conditioning parts, flexible piping also has specific installation requirements. For example, flexible piping systems need to be properly secured and supported to ensure that they do not sag or bend. It is also necessary to minimize kinks, bends and turns – these will reduce air flow and may affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the air conditioner. The advantage of flexible conduits is that they are relatively quick and easy to install, and are typically less expensive than rigid conduits.

Rigid air conditioning duct.They come in a variety of materials and sizes and can be cylindrical or rectangular. They are usually also insulated. They are strong, durable and reliable. The most common types of rigid ducts are:

Sheet metal duct. These are the catheters you have seen in the movie, usually the action hero crawling in it! Galvanized steel and aluminum are the most common materials used in sheet metal pipes. Especially aluminum, which is relatively light in weight and easy to install. Because they have a non-porous surface, they are also the least likely to carry dangerous molds or growth.

Fiberglass pipes. These are sheet metal ducts with internal or external fiberglass lining (as described above). Such ducts are common in office and commercial buildings because they weaken the sound of air conditioning units. However, the fiberglass in these pipes can deteriorate and eventually release the fiberglass particles into the air – a major health problem, especially in the case of prolonged exposure. For the same reason, fiberglass lining pipes are also difficult to clean: the cleaning process can damage the lining and release the fibers. These pipes may also be contaminated with mold and bacteria.

Fiberboard duct. Fibreboard is made from bundles of glass fibers that are compressed and bonded to the resin and then covered with a foil laminate to protect them from moisture. This type of pipe is very suitable for cooling and heating systems because it has good insulation properties. However, ventilation is not recommended as it may be a mildew and moldy hotbed in a humid climate like a fiberglass-lined pipe. In addition, they also affect airflow and efficiency due to the rough surface.
